everyone should have therapy x
I had my last therapy session this week, probably not forever (let’s be realistic), but for now. It’s a weird moment sitting in a room you didn’t even know six months ago and yet has seen more of the rawest parts of you than anything else. It felt like a moment to reflect on how much has changed, being able to see so clearly a difference between who I was when I walked into that room for the first time vs who I am now. It’s a really bizarre feeling knowing that you’ve done something entirely for you and allowing yourself to be proud of that.
I have always been that type of person who thinks everyone needs therapy (or would benefit from it at least). And honestly, this has solidified that even further, it doesn’t happen overnight but learning the tools to help you process your emotions and being able to start understanding why you think and operate in the way you do, it can be so incredibly helpful in day to day life. To help you become a better version of yourself. And when life serves you up an absolute sh*tstorm being able to break that down and work it through with someone makes a world of difference.
I sat on that sofa today and she asked me, do you think you at the start of the year would have thought she could have handled all of that? Firstly, I never anticipated that was an option and secondly, definitely not in the time given or with the strength it’s taken. I’ve grown more in the last 6 months than I remember doing for a long time.
If I’m being honest I thought that leading up to this trip (we leave tonight!!) I was going to have uncontrollable nerves, I thought at this point I was not gonna want to go but I’d have to force myself to. But alas, as I step away from therapy that’s not how I feel at all. Instead I’m excited for the next chapter and what that might hold, the openness that once terrified me is now a place for happiness, creativity, for freedom and new opportunities. The girl I am today would not be here without those months of therapy guiding me through and I am eternally grateful to be in a position that I have that option available to me.
So here’s to therapy, to trying to better yourself and crying your eyes out in a strangers office for the greater good! (lol)
Lots of love,
