Should We Worry What's On The Other Side When Going Backpacking?

Preparations are well underway we’ve booked the flights and bought the bags. Maybe you could say that we have a plan (though that might be a bit of a stretch) but it just hasn’t hit my stomach yet. I get waves of excitement where I realise that the trip we have been dreaming of since we met is happening but it doesn’t feel real that I’m flying to the other side of the world with my best friend in three weeks time.

When you go through a break up and then tell your friends and family that you’re going travelling for three months, they all think that one is caused by the other. But the reality for me is that this is always been the plan even if I was still in that relationship I am certain that this trip would’ve happened either way, we have been speaking about it for YEARS. But what has changed is the plan for when we get back, or lack there of. I thought I would be returning to my fiance to settle down and spend the rest of our lives together. Plot twist… I am not returning to any of that anymore, or any plan at all. I guess you could say that you really never know what is ahead of you because I certainly didn’t foresee that one coming.

It is so exciting to be in the position where you have so many options and possibilities  ahead of you. Yet also absolutely terrifying. (If I say 'the world is my oyster' enough times will I believe it??).

It is completely out of character for me to do anything without a plan or a schedule but it feels different this time, and after all I will figure it out because there aren’t really many other options, right?

Either way we leave in 23 days to go backpacking in South America… But with this I ask you: do you have advice for figuring out what’s on the other side, or is it better just to live in the moment?

Lots of love,
